From Baltimore to Bethnal Green: T. Rowe Price associates celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving through local action

By Andrea Rannard-Lambert, Director of Partnerships & Communications

With the longstanding collaboration of ELBA, T. Rowe Price associates have embraced a tradition of community volunteering in London. Their annual Thanksgiving volunteering initiative has provided associates with an opportunity to support meaningful community service in east London – giving back to their local community at a time traditionally marked by gratitude and generosity.

This Thanksgiving season, T. Rowe Price associates participated in a selection of local volunteering activities:

26 November

East London Pensioners Group (ELPG) socialising session at T. Rowe Price’s office.

ELPG is a voluntary organisation, providing vital community links for vulnerable pensioners in and around the Tower Hamlets area. For Thanksgiving, T. Rowe Price warmly welcomed the group into their office to socialise over a spot of lunch, have a game of bingo and a sing-a-long. The volunteers helped create a memorable experience for all.

27 November

At Leaside Trust

Leaside is a thriving hub for adventure, paddling, environmental action and community on the River Lea in Hackney, connecting local people with nature and having a huge impact helping people feel better, connect and get active. T. Rowe Price volunteers spent Thanksgiving by supporting site by collecting plastic pollution from the River, removing invasive species such as floating pennywort and maintaining floating reed bed habitats.

27 November

At Teesdale & Hollybush Tenants and Resident Association (TRA)

Teesdale & Hollybush TRA support the residents of over 350 properties on this large estate in Bethnal Green in Tower Hamlets. Tower Hamlets is one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK and this TRA has won many awards and had recognition for the work that it does to enhance its community’s area. Volunteers spent the with the TRA, day building planters, planting bulbs and undertaking general maintenance tasks to help support the estate and its residents.

27 November

At Gasworks Dock Partnership

Gasworks Dock Partnership (GDP) is a registered charity based in the London Borough of Newham (LBN). Against the backdrop of LBN’s very transient population plus the increased focus on the surrounding areas rapid regeneration, GDP aims to enable and inspire sustainable communities to emerge and grow by strengthening people’s sense of place and providing opportunities for people to participate and engage with the transformation of the Lower Lea Valley. Volunteers spent the day supporting the charity with dock restoration, landscaping, gardening and tree planting.

At Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

A group of T.Rowe Price volunteers stand outside the gates of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park holding wreaths they have made.

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park (THCP) offers everyone a breathing space in the heart of east London. This large woodland cemetery is a unique place of transformation: a place for remembrance, a sanctuary for humans as well as nature, a place for volunteering, field studies and forest schools. Volunteers spent time building a dead hedge, which is a structure that’s good for retaining dead wood on site and provides refuge and homes to overwintering invertebrates, small mammals, birds and fungi. And, to mark the occasion, the group got involved in seasonal wreathmaking, using sticks and branches from the park, plus extra decorative pieces such as orange peels and cinnamon sticks.

Thank you to T. Rowe Price associates for helping us celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving with you!
