ELBA Toy Appeal – get involved now!

D

uring the festive season most of us start to think of what’s on the list for Christmas, ticking off gifts for family and friends.

Here at ELBA, the festive season also means the launch of the annual Toy Appeal – an initiative that has been running for many years, offering companies and employees a chance to spare a thought, and a gift, for children in the local community.

Each year we organise for gifts to be bought, donated, sorted and delivered to children and young people in east London and beyond. Last year, over £70,000 worth of gifts were donated, however this year the demand from community partners has increased as more families face financial uncertainty.

The Toy Appeal is a key part of our work building the connection between businesses and the community. With the generous support of participating companies and employees, we provide a moment of festive cheer and happiness to many children and families across London.

How it works: We create a list of toys to be bought from an online Gift List, making the process simple and ensuring all gifts are of a similar value. In October and November, companies and employees buy gifts and deliver these to the ‘ELBA Grotto’. In December the gifts are sorted by ELBA and volunteers, and collected by community partners. From there, they bring joy to many young children and kick-start festive celebrations.

We hope that many business volunteers will dig deep and purchase gifts for young people of all ages. Let’s make this the biggest and happiest Toy Appeal to date!

If you are a company and want to get involved, email: challengeinternal@elba-1.org.uk.

  • “For the end of year Christmas Party, we have been able to give the children toys donated through ELBA’s Toy Appeal. Many of the children would normally go without, and we would not have been able to provide such wonderful presents if it were not for the hard work of the ELBA team and the generous support from their member companies. The toys have always been of such high quality and of an educational value. Many of the parents thank us, as they truly appreciate their worth.”
