One Housing resident goes the extra mile!

 In News

A few months ago Charles Richards, a Project Manager in ELBA’s Employment Works team, met with One Housing Group in order to explore opportunities in which ELBA can support the housing association and it’s residents. At One Housing Group, Charles met Otis Joseph, a resident of One Housing who had been out of employment for several months, and was keen to get back up on his feet and employed once again, despite being on crutches during the initial meeting.

Otis quickly showed he had extensive experience of working both within the Construction and Security industry, but most importantly his positive attitude ensured it was very easy to support him on his journey back into employment. Otis not only had over twenty years’ experience in both sectors but also was SIA (Security Industry Authority) qualified. Following the meeting with Charles, Otis attended an employment induction session with a ‘Support Services’ agency in the City. ELBA had worked alongside the Support Service agency to identify up to 50 suitable candidates to fill vacancies at a number of Premier League football grounds, and Otis fitted the bill well.

Otis’ positive attitude and extensive knowledge of the sector went a long way and when introduced to his employer, they were thoroughly impressed. Otis’ continued willingness to learn and flexibility in terms of the employer’s expectations, made him an exemplar candidate. Having been unemployed for several weeks, Otis was able to secure employment, with the help of ELBA, within a matter of weeks. Our contact at One Housing said:

“I met Charles Richards after he kindly agreed to do an employment drop-in at one of our sites on Laburnum Street. What struck me about Charles was his high level of positivity and his willingness to go the extra mile for my customers, not to mention the high level of professionalism that he demonstrated throughout his work with my clients. This gave total confidence. I also had a good feedback from the customers who met with him”.

ELBA continues to work with One Housing Group and other housing associations, to support their residents into meaningful employment. If you are interested in this, or know someone that is seeking employment, please get in touch with our Employment Team at info@elba-1.org.uk.
