Opening doors: Intro to Finance workshops for young people

By Samie John, Project Manager – Education, ELBA

Following five successful years of delivering the Young Influencers Programme (YIP) together, ELBA and Societe Generale are continuing their collaboration through a new series of Intro to Finance workshops for young people. These workshops carry on the legacy of YIP, opening doors for 16-18-year-old students across east London, giving them a real taste of the financial services sector.

In the most recent three‑hour session, students explored the world of corporate and investment banking by working in groups as “mini banks”. By taking on specific roles from relationship managers to risk analysts, they tackled real-world business scenarios, figuring out first-hand exactly how front-office and back-office teams collaborate to serve clients and keep the bank running smoothly.

The workshop concluded with an energetic speed-networking session. Students had the chance to sit down with Societe Generale volunteers from across the business to ask questions, practise essential networking skills, and hear about diverse career journeys.

A big thank you to all the Societe Generale volunteers who contributed their time and insights to help make these new workshops a success.
