ELBA’s Annual Impact Digest
Written by Dr Carmen Nicoara, Head of Research and Impact at ELBA
ELBA is happy to introduce its first Annual Impact Digest (2021-2022). Its aim is to summarise achievements, highlight evaluation exercises/methodologies, and explore the depth of our impact. This work is all possible because of you – our partners!
The Digest also sets out our Theory of Change – how we define, deconstruct, and evaluate impact in east London.
Our analysis shows that, as a direct result of their engagement in our 2021-2022 programmes:
- Over 80% of beneficiaries reported some immediate changes in their behaviours, career journey, and overall well-being. 82% reported substantive improvement in their employability skills;
- 83% of community organisationsreported substantive improvement in their management processes (i.e., developed leadership style, increased capacity, improved organisation resilience, or developed ability to maintain/increase the number and quality of staff or volunteers);
- Furthermore, 100% of employee volunteers reported some immediate change in their behaviours/attitudes and overall well-being, with 96% experiencing substantive change in their skills (i.e., negotiation and influencing, decision making, strategic planning skills or prioritisation).
To identify areas to adjust or ways to respond and adapt, ELBA and BIG Alliance utilise a robust impact evaluation strategy across all programmes and projects, which is detailed in this year’s Digest. The knowledge the organisation gets from these evaluations has proven crucial either for scaling up interventions, revising them, or halting them completely. Our three anchor frameworks – UN SDGs, Skills Builder, and B4SI – enable us to align our evaluation practice with our corporate and community partners’ needs.
