ELBA work experience student makes first career move!
Zaher, who spent 4 weeks, in October 2019, working within the Employment and Skills team at ELBA, has made his first career move. Zaher started his new role as Apprentice Patient Care Co-ordinator at the First 4 Health Group (NHS) on 2nd March and due to COVID-19, he has, understandably as frontline staff, become extremely busy straight away. Zaher kindly took time out of his busy schedule to tell us a bit about his journey so far, and about how ELBA helped contribute towards this.
Zaher worked in an administrative capacity on the ‘Enable’ project whilst working for ELBA. The Enable Project is a collaboration between HSBC and ELBA which helps people in our communities to develop the communication skills needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow. It is well known that communication skills play a fundamental role in all facets of human interaction and in an increasingly competitive world, it is more crucial than ever to have the right skills to build confidence and capabilities that will open doors to employment and independence.
“Since my work experience at ELBA, I have gained confidence and more knowledge than I had before and now it is helping me in my apprenticeship with the NHS. During my work experience at ELBA, I learnt how to input data onto spreadsheets, and how to use DTP software to create certificates given to candidates. I also designed a poster and helped with general administrative duties to support the Enable programme. My advice to businesses would be to give young people a chance no matter how little experience they have.”
