Nazmin Begum, Senior Community and Sustainability Manger, London City Airport

Please provide a short outline of your current role and a brief description of any other relevant career experience
As Senior Community & Sustainability Manager at London City Airport, I lead our socio-economic sustainability programme, driving initiatives that create real opportunities for education, employment and community engagement. From pioneering STEM in Aviation and Women in Aviation programmes to mentoring, internships, staff volunteering and funding local charities, my role is about building bridges between the Airport and the community we serve.

My journey began with the Eagles Graduate Programme at Credit Suisse, where I gained invaluable insight into Corporate Social Responsibility and discovered the power of business to inspire and uplift communities. That experience ignited my passion for CSR and, since then, I’ve dedicated my career to roles that make a tangible difference across both the charity and corporate sectors.

Why is CSR important to your organisation?
CSR is at the heart of London City Airport because we are more than an airport, we are a neighbour, a partner and a catalyst for opportunity in Newham. Being located in the heart of the community means we have a responsibility to give back, to open doors and to raise aspirations. From recruiting locally to supporting young people and empowering the next generation, CSR ensures we remain a good neighbour and a positive force for change.

Which topics, themes or initiatives is your organisation currently focused on?
Our focus is on education, employment and community development. Since 2007, we’ve partnered with ELBA to deliver impactful programmes, including our flagship STEM in Aviation event. What began in 2017 with 100 students has grown into an inspiring annual event welcoming over 500 students and connecting them with eight leading aviation and STEM companies. Through hands-on workshops and real-world insights, we aim to spark curiosity and ambition in the next generation.

What is the best part of your job?
Seeing the ripple effect of our programmes, watching young people gain confidence, charities thrive and communities feel supported. Knowing that the work we do today can transform lives and create brighter futures is what makes every challenge worthwhile.
