Shanae Donkor, Inclusion and Wellbeing Manager, Financial Ombudsman Service

Please provide a short outline of your current role and a brief description of any other relevant career experience
I’m the Inclusion and Wellbeing Manager at the Financial Ombudsman Service, where I lead on initiatives that foster a culture of belonging, support employee wellbeing, and drive forward our diversity and inclusion strategy. My role spans strategic planning, programme delivery and stakeholder engagement, ensuring our colleagues feel respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Outside of work, I volunteer as a school governor, where I contribute to shaping inclusive education and supporting the wellbeing of pupils and staff.

Why is CSR important to your organisation?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is central to our values, it’s how we give back to the communities we serve and ensure our work reflects our commitment to fairness and social impact.

CSR also strengthens our internal culture. It empowers colleagues to volunteer, participate in outreach, and contribute to causes they care about – creating a sense of purpose and pride in our organisation.

Which topics, themes or initiatives is your organisation currently focused on?
Our CSR strategy is driven by a commitment to social mobility, community engagement and responsible business practices. It’s overseen by a dedicated CSR steering group that meets regularly to review progress and align initiatives with our mission to make a positive impact.

We’ve partnered with ELBA to deliver a range of impactful community programmes:

  • Career Insight Visits: We’ve hosted students from local colleges, for office tours and career talks to help broaden their horizons.
  • Career Carousel: Colleagues have shared their personal career journeys with students, offering inspiration and practical advice on navigating the world of work.
  • Toy Appeal: Through ELBA and The BIG Alliance, we donated toys to underprivileged children during the festive season.
  • BoardMatch: Our colleagues have applied to become trustees of local charities, using their skills to support governance and strategic development in the voluntary sector.

What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is seeing the tangible impact of our work – whether it’s a colleague feeling supported through a wellbeing initiative, a young person gaining confidence during a career insight day, or a team coming together to volunteer for a cause. I love the variety, the people and the opportunity to drive meaningful change every day.
