Mentoring Works finalist in National Mentoring Awards
ELBA and BIG Alliance were delighted to have been shortlisted as finalists in this year’s National Mentoring Awards and to attend the awards evening this month at a red-carpet event in Knightsbridge. Over 350 of the UK’s top mentors and mentoring organisations covering all sectors of business, education, sport and society were honoured for their outstanding mentoring achievements. It proved to be a sparkling evening hosted by awards founder Chelsey Baker and compered by Rory Bremner.
The Mentoring Works programme was a finalist, alongside two others, in the category “National Mentoring Award – Third Sector”. Although Mentoring Works did not win in its category, we were honoured to be shortlisted and recognised for the impact and successes of the programme. Reflecting on being award finalists the Programme Managers noted:
“Mentoring Works has been running for 23 years. We are delighted that it’s so long-running and it’s still here to address a real need for the young people in the communities we serve across east and north London. In that time we’ve supported thousands of young people and worked with thousands of mentors. We have seen first-hand how powerful mentoring is. The impact of mentoring is driven by the will of people to improve their own lives and the lives of others. We have seen aspiration, ambition, confidence and prospects sky-rocket for young people and witnessed mentors inspired by giving back, discovering new skills and developing the workforce for the future.”
The incredible variety of mentoring categories on the awards programme highlighted the breadth of mentoring happening nationally. The award categories included Youth, Business, Education, Sport, Armed Forces, Diversity, Disability, Health, Music, Fashion, STEM, Women, Charities, Schools, Colleges, Universities, Third Sector, Mentoring Programme of the Year and Mentor and Mentee of the Year, among others.
The National Mentoring Awards were founded by leading business mentor Chelsey Baker who was frustrated by the lack of real inspirational mentoring role models. Chelsey launched the awards to recognise the impact and achievements of mentors and mentoring programmes across the UK. The aim of the awards is to help create real inspirational mentoring role models across every sector and thank those who make a difference by mentoring.
