Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Careers Junction
On the 4th September Newham Collegiate Sixth Form (NCS) opened its doors to a new cohort of students as well as employee volunteers. The induction day for the new students provided them with not only information about their new place of learning, but also an insight into potential careers in a range of industries. This allowed students to develop their confidence and the ability to hold a conversation in a professional capacity with someone in a business environment. There was a lot of excitement in the rooms as students met with the business volunteers, representing KPMG, Accenture, Thames Water, Citi and Barnett-Waddingham LLP.
These important schemes have proven to be essential tools for students that might otherwise not have had the opportunity to interact with such an audience, building their aspirations and preparing them for their later transition into the world of work.Students found the day to be interactive and informative and felt they had learnt about the different career routes open to them, for example identifying the different strengths of University and Apprenticeships such as the KMPG 360 programme.
When asked what they enjoyed about the session students responses were positive and enthusiastic:
“I enjoyed learning how to analyse information through a business perspective.”
“The speaker was so motivating and compassionate, it inspired me.”
Volunteers commented that students being able to choose which workshops to attend worked well.
