The ELBA Toolkit – Sharing professional skills to build third sector capacity

 In Community, News

We are excited to announce the launch of the ELBA-Toolkit, a series of capacity building workshops which provide local community organisations with the opportunity to learn key skills from industry professionals.

The vast majority of our community partners struggle to access opportunities for their staff to develop skills. Business professionals can play a vital role in bridging this gap by sharing their knowledge through ELBA Toolkit sessions, enabling local charities to develop their employees and build organisational capacity.

The ELBA Toolkit will evolve as the needs of the community evolve, covering topics that range from how to create a mission, vision and values to understanding organisational finance. Community Partners will have the opportunity to attend as many sessions as they wish, helping them to access the tools they need to become more sustainable and scalable.

Over the past month, volunteers from ELBA’s business partners delivered three different ELBA Toolkit sessions, sharing their skills and expertise with 35 different community partners. Communication specialists from Bupa shared knowledge on ‘Writing Clearly and with Impact’ following which, one attendee said:

“The session helped me to understand that when writing you don’t have to use complicated language, it just has to be interesting to the reader and the audience.”

A governance expert from Mazars delivered a session entitled “Practical Ways to Enhance Your Board’s Effectiveness” with one attendee commenting,

The session was really useful in helping me reflect on how I carry out my trustee role and improvements that our board could make.

Check out this month’s Volunteer of the Month piece for more information.

Finally a diversity and inclusion specialist from L&Q taught community partners about “Building an Inclusive Culture for Your Organisation” receiving great feedback from an attendee who said,

“The content was really useful and it’s great to see an organisation of this size raising awareness on the subject of diversity and inclusion.

Upcoming ELBA Toolkit sessions include “Funding Applications: Effective Monitoring and Evidencing Impact” and “Digital Marketing Skills: Understanding Core Principals”.

We are currently looking for more volunteers who can share their skills and experience so if you work in finance, marketing, communications, HR, business planning, strategy, operations, IT, legal, project management or any other business area, and feel that you could share your skills, then we want to hear from you. ELBA’s Connect Team will work with you to design the session. For further information, please contact harriet.joseph@elba-1.org.uk.
