Singapore charity leaders explore place-based giving with BIG Alliance and Islington Giving

This October, BIG had the pleasure of co-hosting an inspiring event with Islington Giving, welcoming Singaporean charity leaders from Majurity Trust to explore the power and potential of Place-Based Giving.

Founded in 2018, Majurity Trust is building bridges between donors and local communities in Singapore; sharing a mission similar to ELBA and BIG, each contributing within their own unique cultural and geographic context. We were delighted to host the Majurity Trust Leadership Team and Board at our offices for an engaging discussion on place-based giving, a model which our Singaporean friends were keen to utilise on home soil.

Brought together by our friends and colleagues at the Macquarie Group Foundation (one of the key donors supporting Majurity Trust), representatives from BIG, ELBA and Islington Giving shared insights into how we work, and key successes and challenges along the way. We explored how place-based support brings partners, donors and supporters together with a clearly understandable mission. BIG’s Reference Group was discussed as being an incredibly useful and important way of building the alliance and keeping us all committed to the vision.

Not only was it an incredibly interesting afternoon with great discussions, it was also a valuable space to remind ourselves of all we have achieved together and the important work ahead of us. As we shared insights into the unifying force of the place-based model, our commitment to focusing on local community needs and supporting the third sector will remain our guiding principles.
