Employee volunteers create a City Giving Day to remember for local students
The atmosphere was buzzing at this year’s City Giving Day. J.P. Morgan and Nomura were just two of the organisations who offered volunteers to support over 150 students to gain the essential skills that they will need in the world of work.
Volunteers at J.P. Morgan in Canary Wharf hosted students from Newham Collegiate Sixth Form (NCS), providing an insight into a career in financial services through a panel discussion followed by one to one support in how to construct a CV. Rebecca, a teacher at NCS, said:
“Thank you very much for organising today, the students found the CV session really useful and were particularly pleased that they managed to get some one on one support.”
Just a few miles away in the City, Nomura’s staff worked with ELBA to host students from schools across East London to take part in a speed networking event. This allowed students to develop their confidence and the ability to hold a conversation in a professional capacity with someone in a business environment. There was a lot of excitement in the room as students made their way through the 100 volunteers.
Saed, a student from Barking Abbey School can’t wait for the next event, she said:
“It was such a good experience, I loved every part of it! The people were so friendly and the working environment was very positive. It would be beneficial if we have more trips like this to these big firms, can we please have more of these throughout the year?”
