ELBA schools compete in the Zurich Challenge
On Tuesday 24th May Zurich Global Insurance hosted 60 secondary school student s from Eden Girls in Walthamstow, Sarah Bonnell in Stratford and Kingsford Community School in Beckton. The students presented their ideas based on a challenge that had been set to their 3 schools when they had been visited by Zurich volunteers who had delivered Financial Literacy sessions. All the students were congratulated and received positive feedback on their presentations. However it was Kingsford School who were judged winners on the day. The students also had the opportunity to hear from staff who had recently joined the company and learn of the various career and education paths that could lead to a job within Zurich.
Zurich had approached ELBA to assist with skills sharing initiative involving East London schools that would not only engage their staff and raise awareness of the Zurich brand and the Insurance sector as a whole. ELBA worked closely with Zurich to develop the Zurich Insurance Financial Literacy Challenge. This was a 2 stage programme that provided opportunities for Zurich staff to be teachers for a day and for 60 secondary school students to spend a day at Zurich’s newly furbished offices in the City of London.
ELBA’s Education Team identified and prepared 3 East London Schools to take part in the project, Eden Girls in Walthamstow, Sarah Bonnell in Stratford and Kingsford Community School in Beckton. The Education Team also worked with Zurich develop training materials which were used by their staff who volunteered their time to deliver workshops on financial literacy. The students that took part in the school workshops learnt about money and the insurance industry but were also set a specific challenge relating to Zurich as a company and were tasked with presenting their project at Zurich head office in front of 2 other schools and Zurich’s senior management team.
