Digging in and giving back: Volunteers roll up their sleeves for east London

By Tina Shamuyarira, Community Development Project Manager, ELBA

We are well into a busy summer of volunteering at ELBA, with teams from our corporate partners giving their time and skills to support communities across east London.

We had three teams out volunteering with different community partners – Stepney City Farm, Shakespeare Walk Adventure Playground and Teesdale & Hollybush Tenants and Residents Association (TRA). Over 30 volunteers took part, contributing valuable hours of hands-on support to help maintain and improve these much-loved local spaces.

One volunteer who joined the team at Teesdale & Hollybush TRA in Bethnal Green said:

“I’m so glad we were able to make a difference and help out as much as we could. The team really enjoyed it and had a great day. It was very rewarding for us. A real highlight was Alice the robin — she stole a few hearts!”

As part of Morgan Stanley’s Global Volunteer Month, we welcomed more than 200 employees to a Community Gardening Day at Mile End Park. Volunteers helped with general garden maintenance, pond construction and spent time connecting with residents. Their efforts help keep these community spaces thriving.

These campaigns show just how valuable corporate support is. The difference is immediate, easing pressure on community organisations, strengthening vital local services and ensuring residents continue to have safe, welcoming places to connect and grow.

Thank you to all our community and corporate partners and volunteers whose time, energy and commitment help make this possible. Your support goes a long way.
