Celebrating 30 years of ELBA and 30 years of Lloyd’s Community Programme
Lloyd’s is a longstanding member of ELBA and this month we take a look at the fantastic work Lloyd’s volunteers have contributed to east London. Lloyd’s are ELBA’s biggest participator in Team Challenges and in 2018 sent out almost 1500 volunteers from across the market.
2019 marks both the 30th anniversary of the Lloyd’s Community Programme and ELBA’s 30th birthday. In 1989 the world of CSR and formal employee supported volunteering were very new to London. Since then we have worked with Lloyd’s across many events from parks and open spaces, to food banks and social events with isolated members of the community. In May alone, teams from Marsh and Hyperion have volunteered at Spitalfields City Farm, Evergreen Adventure Playground, Hackney Caribbean Elderly Organisation and Eat or Heat foodbank.
Each year, ELBA supports members of the Lloyd’s market with organising Team Challenges for their global giving campaigns where all employees are encouraged to volunteer to support their local communities. Already this year, over 500 volunteers have taken part in Axa XL’s Global Day of Giving and Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) Serve with Liberty campaigns. One of the volunteers from Axa XL said:
“It was great to collaborate amongst new colleagues. I really gained a sense of pride in giving something back to the community.”
Halimah Choudhury, CSR Coordinator at LSM said:
“The initiative and range of activities that colleagues can participate in has been a great way for them to meet new people and help our communities to prosper.”

“Lloyd’s Community Programme is delighted to jointly celebrate with ELBA our 30th anniversary. ELBA have helped us deliver thousands of volunteer hours through their team challenge programme, enabling volunteers from across the Lloyd’s market to find out about projects in our local community.”
