Staff Spotlight – Ajmin Haque, Senior Project Manager, Mentoring Works

When did you join ELBA?
I first joined the ELBA family in February 2020 as a CSR Eagle. I then transitioned into the Mentoring Works team as a Project Manager in September 2021, and I haven’t looked back since!

What is your role and what does it involve?
As a Senior Project Manager for Mentoring Works, I oversee two of our Year 10 and Sixth Form mentoring programmes. My role is quite varied – covering everything from recruitment and DBS checks to training, facilitation and ensuring our mentoring relationships are thriving and impactful. 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Mentoring Works, so it is an exciting year for the programme and ELBA.

Three words to describe yourself
Resilient, Empathetic, Passionate.

Tell us one thing that people may not know about you
When I was younger, I actually dreamed of becoming a professional baker. I still love trying out new recipes!

Tell us the best thing about working for ELBA
ELBA is truly unique; it strikes the perfect balance between deep-rooted community involvement and a strong connection to the City and Canary Wharf. Seeing the broad impact across Education, Community and Employment is incredibly inspiring.

Name your favourite place in east London and why
Columbia Road Flower Market. It’s vibrant, beautiful, and holds a special place in my heart as it’s so close to where I grew up. It really is the full package!

Complete this sentence: ‘The absolute best thing about volunteering is…’
…the profound impact you have on our beneficiaries. Students are like sponges; they absorb the knowledge and confidence you share, often in ways you don’t even realise at the time.
