Kita Berman van HeerdenDeputy Head of Programme, Canada Water Connect Team

Your title, when you joined and what motivated you to join ELBA:
Deputy Head of Programme, Canada Water Connect Team. I joined in 2022, inspired by ELBA’s impactful work in the community.

Key contributions or focus:
ELBA was invited by British Land to lead on the social impact work taking place on the Canada Water development, forming the Canada Water Connect team. Leading the team, we connect local people to the new opportunities being created by the development, across employment, community, business and educational initiatives. Through utilising ELBA’s experience, we have supported over 40 organisations, schools and businesses through funding and volunteering. From confidence building workshops for young people at risk of becoming NEET, to supporting long-term unemployed individuals to get back into work, I feel very proud of the hard work the team is doing.

Professional background and perspective:
Previously, I worked for mental health charities. This complemented my ongoing studies in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, which I am completing alongside my current role. I am inspired by ELBA’s willingness for change and maximising opportunities for marginalised communities.
