Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2024

Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2024

Written by Lauren Watson, Senior Community Development Project Manager, Challenge:ELBA

This year, Team Challenges took our community partners by storm as we celebrated 40 years of Volunteers’ Week (3rd – 7th June). We had an incredible 27 teams taking part in practical volunteering opportunities across 17 of our community partners. Check out our Instagram highlights to see how we celebrated the dedication and commitment of employees from various businesses who step outside their usual roles to make meaningful contributions to our communities.

Volunteers’ Week is a chance to recognise and celebrate volunteers’ contribution to our local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole. Of those that participated, we teamed up with Fitch Group who enjoyed 6 team challenges throughout the week. A whopping 145 corporate volunteers enjoyed supporting our adventure playgrounds, farms and educational organisations with gardening and maintenance tasks, mucking out, feeding & grooming animals, painting, refurbishing wooden structures and more! Such support is needed to ensure that facilities are user friendly and safe for their beneficiaries. It also helps organisations complete long standing projects, that without the help would not be achieved as quickly, if at all. The support also plays a crucial role in tackling financial barriers and addressing the needs within the community.

Feedback from the week’s activities was brilliant and reminds us of the positive impact of volunteering for both the volunteer and the beneficiary:

“I just wanted to say another big thank you to everyone who came along to volunteer yesterday. These events make a huge difference to the Farm, and I really hope that the team enjoyed the day.”

– Community Partner

“I volunteered at Shakespeare Walk Adventure Playground, and my colleagues and I helped to transform the playground into a safe and clean environment for children to learn and play. It was an amazing experience to support such a vital space for the wellbeing of the local community.”

– Wiktoria Stachurska, Fitch Group

Corporate Volunteering is more than a goodwill gesture and is a testament to the powerful role a business can play in fostering social responsibility and community engagement. We extend our thanks to Fitch Group Volunteers and our other corporate partners who generously give up their time and talents to cultivate a culture of teamwork, sustainability and meaningful impact within their workforce.
