The trauma we carry
Written by Anya Rudolphy, Community Development Project Manager
Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, community partner Spark2Life facilitated Trauma Awareness training for ELBA and its Everyone’s Business community partners.
The training highlighted the strength and positive potential of being able to acknowledge the impacts of trauma in how we perform within our jobs, personal lives and within our community.
By understanding not only our own trauma, but what others may carry themselves, we are able to reshape how we react to and understand each other.
Everyone’s Business is a ELBA youth employment and capacity building programme, providing young people at risk of getting involved in serious youth violence with opportunities to improve their employment skills and access to sustainable jobs.
Central to the programme is the partnership between ELBA, Streets of Growth, Rights and Equalities in Newham, Spark2Life, Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets, and Barking and Dagenham Giving.
“For the young people we work with – many having to live with adverse childhood experiences and not fully understanding how that impacts their day-to-day choices – we need to be that significant other that offers and contributes in being part of the protective factor in their world”
– Spark2Life CEO Dez Brown, who delivered the trauma training
Spark2Life’s Trauma Awareness training has provided an invaluable insight into an area of mental health, and ELBA would like to thank them and all our partners that help raise awareness about mental health.
Look after yourself and others this Mental Health Awareness Week!
