Mentoring Works Sixth Form programme launches, while Year 10s celebrate midway point

 In Education, News

The Mentoring Works Sixth Form programme 2017 has been launching across February and March, with some final relationships setting off in April.

Our Hackney school Sixth Forms continue their partnerships with their City companies: Freshfields mentors will work with students from Haggerston School, whilst Linklaters continue with Clapton Girls’ Academy, Schroders with Mossbourne Community Academy and Aviva Investors with Our Lady’s Convent High School.

All of this year’s participating students will now meet, on average, once a month for a one hour session with their mentor until the programme concludes, in November 2017, with a group celebration event.

Meanwhile, the Mentoring Works Year 10 programme, with participating schools in Hackney and Haringey, is now at the midway point and some groups have been enjoying a bowling social event or group activity sessions with their mentors. The Mentoring Works team have been busy gathering feedback from mentors and students and are delighted to hear about how well groups have been doing so far and all the topics being explored in mentoring sessions.

Students have told us:

“My mentor is so intelligent and experienced and he’s given me knowledge of working life”.

“My mentor has helped me figure out what I want to do.”

And mentors have noted the following:

“My students have already demonstrated key skills like leadership and team work.”

“I have found it really rewarding so far and I’ve found out more about myself; working with young people has improved my communication and creative thinking skills.”

Established in 1996, ELBA’s Mentoring Works programme matches Year 10 and Sixth Form students to business professionals working in the City of London. Students are encouraged to develop the skills and competencies needed for future education, training or careers. Mentoring Works has been assessed and accredited with the Approved Provider Standard (APS) by the Mentoring & Befriending Foundation. The APS is the national quality standard designed specifically for all types of mentoring and befriending projects.
