Busy schedule vs. desire to volunteer? ‘Just Turn Up Day’ volunteering!
We all know volunteering is important. It’s good for the mind, good for the soul, and great for those who your work benefits – whatever the work may be. And with the increasingly busy, hectic and inflexible nature of everyone’s diaries, the easier any opportunity to give back that is emailed to us or floated by a colleague, the better. Well, what better than an event where you can simply turn up and get stuck in. No pre-planning or longer term commitment. It’s just about you turning up on your own – or with a colleague – to roll up your sleeves, switch off from your day job, do some good work, and help others. For one day or even half a day, if that suits better.
Next month ELBA will be running its next Just Turn Up Day. Thursday October 20th will see a small team of eager volunteers, keen to give something back, volunteer at the Linc Centre & Garden in Tower Hamlets. Their mission will be to help local community members prepare the community garden for winter. They’ll be digging, clearing, planting, and tidying and you can join them too. Because the Linc Garden needs you!
A community garden space managed by local residents, this Poplar Harca initiative is a treasured space for the few volunteers who manage the space and the locals who use it. “To sow, grow and reap the reward!” is the motto of the Linc garden users, and they encourage you to do the same and join them on 20th October 2016. Your support and time will go a long way in getting the garden ready for winter, something which recently the volunteers haven’t had the time or resources to do. Your help will also prepare the garden for the Autumn Harvest event which the Tower Hamlets-based growers will celebrate shortly after this Just Turn Up Day event.
