Smera NadeemHead of Programmes - Community

Your title, when you joined and what motivated you to join ELBA:
Head of Programmes – Community. Joining in 2019, I was motivated by ELBA’s passion to do something value driven.

Key contributions or focus:
Within my role in the Challenge team, I have organised practical volunteering opportunities for corporate teams to support community organisations in East London. Lockdown led to a key achievement for the team, as we successfully converted in-person activities into virtual, being responsive to the needs of the community. The annual Toy Appeal was a highlight in 2020, with over 22,000 toys donated. I also led on the Isolation Reduction Project, navigating the challenges of Covid-19 for a group identified as most vulnerable at the time. I also chair ELBA’s internal wellbeing group, WELBA.

Professional background and perspective:
My career journey has progressed throughout my time at ELBA, each role presenting an opportunity to learn. With innovation progressing at a quick rate, I look forward to ensuring ELBA stays “on trend” and continues making a positive impact.
