Time to get Educated: microvolunteering
Time to get Educated: The Education Works Team shares how you can still make a difference through microvolunteering
Written by Hayley Turner-McIntyre, Project Manager – Education
The 15th April is International Microvolunteering Day 2024! Whilst you may not have heard of the term microvolunteering, it is something you may have probably done in the past without realising.
Want to support a cause you care about but short on hours? Microvolunteering lets you share your skills and expertise for short bursts, making a big difference without a big commitment. It’s like volunteering, but supercharged for busy schedules – and just as impactful!
Here in the Education Works team, we have been collaborating with our university partners to offer students the opportunity to hear from industry experts in their field of study and interests, particularly within the business, consultancy, and data analysis sectors. Business volunteers individually have delivered a short session in students’ lectures or panel talks, on-campus or online, to give insight into their industry, personal career journey, and career opportunities within this sector – all within one hour! These insight sessions are particularly valuable to university students who are in the early stages of their career and are hoping to discover the exciting range of career paths they can choose from post-graduation, and to also give inspiration and guidance to those students who are still figuring it out.
Thank you to our volunteers who have stepped forward to offer their expertise and skills to inspire east London students! If you feel that your experience and expertise could benefit young people through microvolunteering opportunities at ELBA, please email educationworks@elba-1.org.uk or check out our latest ‘Hot Opps’, our biweekly newsletter of volunteering opportunities.
