Students from Walthamstow are inspired by visits to local businesses

 In News

In May, ELBA helped Westfield Stratford City, specialist insurance company Beazley and sustainable events venue The Crystal by Siemens welcome young people into their offices for career insight events.

The young people in attendance were all 13-14 year old students from Walthamstow School for Girls, who were taking part in their first Business Action Groups for Schools (BAGS) event outside of school.

The aim was to provide an insight into the world of work, a chance to interact with professional role models and learn employability skills such as leadership.   At Westfield, the young people were tasked with creating a summer campaign for the shopping centre while at The Crystal they learnt about engineering careers and project management.

The workshop hosted by Beazley focused on female leadership in the work place and Shakeela Khanom, who set up this event, said, “We facilitated a workshop to teach young women the importance of leadership skills as well as showing the exciting possibilities of a career in specialist insurance. It was a very rewarding experience to work with the aspiring students. We look forward to continue working in partnership with our schools in east London with further initiatives.”
