New Year, new impact
New Year, new impact
By Andrea Rannard-Lambert, Partnerships & Communications Director
Happy 2026 to one and all! There is something about the turn of the calendar that sparks a “New Year, New You” energy. We often spend January plotting personal milestones – fitness goals, new hobbies or career pivots. But what if the most rewarding thing you did this year was for someone you haven’t even met yet?
At ELBA, we believe that the most powerful way to grow is by helping others do the same. If volunteering has been on your “someday” list, there is no better time than right now to turn that intention into action. We have curated a diverse line-up of opportunities to help you share your expertise, boost your CV, and start your year with a genuine sense of purpose.
For all your FinTech experts, how about giving 20 minutes of your time this January for a one-off university student podcast. Give your insight into the wider industry landscape, current trends, challenges and opportunities. Your input would offer the students valuable real-world overview and help bridge academic learning with industry practice. It’s a great opportunity to put yourself out there this January, and showcase your communication skills and sector knowledge.
BoardMatch29 – Perhaps you are considering a governance role? Then come along to ELBA’s BoardMatch event in March. This is a great opportunity to hear from 10-12 east London- and Islington-based charities who are seeking trustees. You will have the chance to learn about the role, requirements and benefits of trusteeship and apply to join a Board. This is an excellent way to boost your CV, strengthen your professional skills and network whilst making a difference to a local organisation and their service users.
How about hosting a Career Insight Visit? Throughout January and February, ELBA will be organising industry-focused workshops to give Year 7-10 students company insights. We are looking for volunteers from different companies and departments to host and talk about their business and roles. Why not demonstrate your skills and expertise, whilst getting the feel-good factor in return?
Would you like to participate in a university Business and Finance Fair? We are looking for volunteers to promote your early career programmes and provide advice on next steps after university to current students. Share your story, showcase your organisation and connect with the next generation of talent who are eager to break into the sector. You will also have the chance to network with other organisations and academic colleagues on the day.
Or perhaps supporting local residents with CVs and Mock Interviews? Your time and guidance can make a lasting impact, offering practical support to those preparing to enter the workforce. You can play a pivotal role in shaping future careers by boosting confidence, opening doors and helping shape brighter futures. It’s a meaningful way to give back, support social mobility and use your skills to create lasting impact – one CV or mock interview at a time!
Why not get in touch with ELBA and have a chat. Let ELBA support you with your volunteering journey.
Here’s to a volunteering-filled 2026!
