MUFG communications series a hit with Fight for Peace youth council

In support of MUFG’s Laureus Sport for Good partnership, BIG Alliance recently helped deliver a series of communications workshops for Fight for Peace, a London-based programme supported by Laureus.

Fight for Peace have a well-established Youth Council which acts as the voice of the young people in the charity and helps ensure that Fight for Peace as an organisation meets their needs. The Youth Council is made up of young people who invest their time for the benefit of their peers but also the organisation, representing it at events and supporting with fundraising. Fight for Peace also want to ensure that all of their young people gain skills which can help them into future employment.

The workshop series covered three main topics over a one-month period, including communication styles, communication methods, and feedback. Volunteers not only were able to present best practice methods and tools, but also share how these topics relate to their own roles and simultaneously provide an insight into the banking sector for the young people. The range of outcomes were really well received by the Youth Council, with one of the young people saying after the final session:

“Thank you to MUFG staff for putting on the communication training sessions. I found them very helpful and felt that I could ask anything in the session. These lessons will help me to be a better youth councillor.”

Shirin Amirashayeri, Early Careers Specialist at MUFG who was one of the volunteers to deliver the feedback workshop said of the experience:

“As part of my role, I regularly provide feedback to young people. I registered for this session because I felt it was important to hear from young people on their views about receiving feedback and how to make it impactful. Communication is a vital skill which allows individuals to feel confident and learn how to address situations, share their opinions and feel they are being listened to. I enjoyed listening to others share their insights and personal experiences on giving or receiving feedback and importantly how they plan to approach the topic going forward.”
