Mental Health Awareness Week: Liberty volunteers support Working Well Trust
During Mental Health Awareness Week, ELBA worked with the Working Well Trust to deliver an employability workshop for their service users. The Working Well Trust is a mental health charity that assists east Londoners to achieve their recovery goals through training and employment support. They also provide vital services to job seekers in Tower Hamlets experiencing mental health issues. By working with local mental health professionals, mental health service providers, local businesses and service user groups, they support people to develop an action plan and help them to sustain employment.
Five volunteers from Liberty Specialty Markets, who were taking part in the fantastic Serve with Liberty programme supported the workshop. This annual global employee community participation programme sees Liberty employees from across the world support partner charities through a variety of volunteer projects. Keen to put their skills and experience to good use, the volunteers chose to help Working Well Trust’s service users improve their employability skills.
There was a great turnout from the charity’s service users, with fourteen service users in attendance. The workshop offered the opportunity to hone interview and networking skills, build confidence, and connect with corporate volunteers. The participants approached the activities with enthusiasm and the volunteers provided excellent support and guidance throughout the workshop, giving helpful feedback and pointers to help participants improve their skills.
By the end of the session participants felt they improved not only their interview skills, but also their communication skills, adaptability and self-confidence. Almost the whole group felt more motivated and confident that they would perform well at interview. A big thank you to everyone that took part!
