Lloyd’s International Reporting goes to Redbridge Foodbank
On Friday 6 July the International Reporting team from Lloyd’s headed to Redbridge Foodbank in Ilford for a day of volunteering, as part of the Lloyd’s Community Programme. The Redbridge Foodbank was set up by the Lloyd’s Community Programme and ELBA.
On arrival at the centre the team were split into two groups and sent out with a shopping list, carrier bags and a mission to buy as much as possible within a set budget. The teams were also tasked with finding pick-up points on the route where the general public could place items and had to take group selfies of the team to prove they’d been there.
The competitive streaks of the teams came out, with both teams winning in their own way; one with the heaviest quantity of shopping purchased, the other with the most people in their photographs!
Once back at the centre the teams helped sort the food into type and date, in readiness for the following day where food parcels would be given out to local families in need.
The teams reported a hard, but rewarding and fun day, saying:
“We would highly recommend taking on this challenge as although it was hard work it was made to be fun as well. By the end of the day you have a sense of achievement knowing you have helped give something back to the community. It is truly a worthwhile cause so why not give it a go.”
