On Tuesday February 4, volunteers from London City Airport were generous enough to donate their time to hosting an insight session with students from Sir George Monoux Sixth Form College studying Travel and Tourism. The purpose of an insight visit is to give students a greater understanding of the plethora of career opportunities within the industry; to give them a chance to network with professionals and complete a challenge which develops their key employability skills.
During the session, students were taken on a tour of the check-in area where they learnt about the different roles and logistics involved in day-to-day operations. Two volunteers gave a career talk to the students, speaking about their education and career history and about the job they are in now. These volunteers were Digital & CRM Manager in Marketing at London City Airport and Cabin Operations Training Executive at BA Cityflyer, demonstrating the breadth of roles available in the aviation industry.
London City Airport is currently expanding its leisure offering, providing even more options for travellers looking to combine business with pleasure or explore exciting new destinations. Students were challenged to propose a new leisure destination for the airport that promises a strong demand. Based on information provided by the airport on passenger profiles and the airport catchment area, students had to give an overview of their proposed city, detailed reasoning as to why they had selected this city, the planned months for operation and the marketing campaign to supplement their presentation.
A massive thank you to London City Airport and their volunteers for supporting the session which provided invaluable insight and careers information for our students.
