HR for Good
HR for Good
By Liz Magill, Senior Project Manager Community
Community organisations are most often made up of small but mighty teams, with individuals wearing many hats. One of these hats will inevitably be Human Resources (HR). Many in the third sector who end up working in HR, may never have forseen themselves landing there. The landscape for our community partners across east London can be challenging. This includes struggles with recruitment and retention when competing with the cost of living crisis, managing complex relationships in the workplace, supporting the wellbeing of all staff in what can be a stressful job and navigating changing policies.
To help support our community partners, ELBA launched our 12-month HR for Good series at the start of the year to provide practical support. Once a month, HR professionals from ELBA business partners provide insight and knowledge on a variety of topics. The two key business partners for this series have been SMBC led by Kim Clarke, Head of UK HR, supported by numerous colleagues and BMS led by Roanne Gibbs, Managing Director of HR. The volunteers have been incredibly generous with their time and their expertise.
So far the series has covered topics such as Hiring and Interviewing, Types of Contracts and Performance Management. Upcoming sessions will cover Constructive Feedback, Benefits and more!
The community partners that have attended sessions have gained great insight.
“I think the sessions have been immensely useful to say the least.”
– Community partner attendee
“After asking a question about conflict in my team, the answers gave me new ways to deal with it.”
– Community partner attendee
With almost 100 community partners expressing interest in the sessions, it is clear that the need for practical support is high across the community. It has been a great start to the series and excited for the remaining sessions!
