Connecting East London community organisations with business skills
Written by Anya & Orlaith – Community Development Project Managers, Connect Team
One of the main challenges faced by ELBA community partners is the limited time, resource and budget to tackle key organisational challenges.
In response to this, ELBA’s Connect team delivers an array of skills-based volunteering projects, all designed to build community capacity through workshops, coaching, and other bespoke development opportunities.
Throughout September, ELBA’s Connect team ran several activities including:
- Three toolkit training sessions, through which volunteers and community organisations shared skills and experience on People Management, Financial Planning and Proposal Writing.
- Four capacity building workshops, where volunteers supported community organisations on the subject of HR, Finance, Digital Marketing & Communications and Business Planning.
- Four mid-point check-in sessions and one celebration event as part of our ten month Leaders in Partnership coaching programme
- Pitch for Success training activity, preparing organisations to present their organisation and partake in BoardMatch19, ELBA’s trustee recruitment programme. This programme supports business volunteers to join boards of East London community organisations. If you are interested in becoming a trustee please register for our next event on Tuesday 18th October at boardmatch19.eventbrite.co.uk
- An array of bespoke activities, including a knowledge sharing session for an inclusion network with a local mental health organisation.
These activities provide community partners with an opportunity to access skills and capacity they may not otherwise have access to. However, the benefits of volunteering go both ways. For volunteers, it is a chance to collaborate with an impactful organisation and offer them support in a way that has a lasting impact on the sustainability of their organisation.
