Why do you volunteer?
I volunteer because I want to be able to support and give opportunities to those who maybe have not been able to be given the opportunity to shine. I also volunteer because I can gain different perspectives from others. On a personal note, I think it’s great for my health and wellbeing, to be able take myself out of my day-to-day work and de-stress…
What have you gained from your volunteering experience?
Having been involved as a mentor on the Year 10, Sixth form and Samuel Rhodes Mentoring programmes at Big Alliance, I have gained a lot of different perspectives and knowledge of how to adapt my approaches when working with different people. I’ve gained great mentees! I love seeing them achieve even if it may seem like the smallest thing!
Would you recommend volunteering to a colleague and, if so, why?
Of course, it’s has been amazing to be able to work with different people and as I am in L&D it’s honed certain skills sets that helps me in my role.
