Bupa: supporting Community, Employee Health and Wellbeing, Diversity and Inclusion

As part of our series of interviews with Corporate Social Responsibility professionals at our corporate partners, we find out about the latest developments and areas of key focus in Bupa’s global Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability team, as told by Caitlin Robinson, CRS Executive at Bupa.

Tell us about your current role and any other related experience that you have
I sit in Bupa’s global Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CRS) team, as the global CRS Executive. We are part of Bupa’s global Corporate Affairs function. I look after projects and communications across CRS agenda – particularly focusing on Community, Employee Health and Wellbeing, Diversity and Inclusion, and telling our CRS story to internal and external audiences. One of my areas of accountability is looking after Community activities for our corporate Centre in London – this is our global headquarters. As part of this, I helped to set up our relationship with ELBA and I lead our partnership activities.

Before working for Bupa, I moved from Canada to work in community engagement for a Canadian athletic wear retailer that had recently opened in London. My favourite part about the job was delivering our community-based social impact programme, which ultimately led me to look for other opportunities working in CRS.

Why is CSR important to your organisation?
Bupa’s purpose is to help people live longer, happier, healthier lives. As a purpose-driven organisation, our approach to CRS is core to how we operate. We want to be a true champion for our customers, delivering strong and sustainable performance, through engaged and empowered people. The CRS team exists to help bring our purpose to life for our customers, our employees and the communities we serve.

Which topics, themes or initiatives are your organisation currently focused on?
At Bupa, we aim to create shared value for our customers, our employees and wider society, focusing our activity across five CRS pillars:

• Customer: Funding and providing quality health and care services
• People: Being a place where people love to work
• Ethics: Conducting our business ethically
• Community: Engaging with our communities
• Environment: Making a positive impact on the environment

What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the people I work with – inside and outside of Bupa.
