Here Come The Goals

Global Goals Week takes place 16-25 September, with organisations working towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. ELBA and partners will be getting involved.
The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target the most important issues facing the planet today and lay out objectives to work towards at all levels. The SGDs are at the heart of almost all of ELBA’s work, ensuring that our hyperlocal response not only benefits east London, but also contributes toward a global objective.
Goals 1 and 2, No Poverty and Zero Hunger, have become especially pertinent in recent weeks. The cost of living crisis has disproportionately affected the households with the lowest income in the UK. The annual inflation rate for the poorest 10% of households was 10.9% in April, 3% higher than the richest 10%, primarily due to energy costs making up a greater proportion of budgets for low-income households*.
The work that volunteers take part in not only directly supports those in most need, but also helps community organisations continue the fantastic work they are doing and stay afloat in a time when the current economic climate is causing many to sink.
Global Goals Week is dedicated to accelerating action toward the SDGs. ELBA is celebrating by organising a huge array of volunteering opportunities, working with volunteers to support a plethora of east London-based organisations whose work directly contributes towards the targets laid out in the SDGs. We have already had a fantastic response from our corporate contributors, with 30 Team Challenges and many other volunteering opportunities already booked in!
