International Day of Education 2025

International Day of Education (24 January) is a time to celebrate the vital role of education in the world.

ELBA’s Education programme plays a key role in supporting education institutions and helping students prepare for the working world, and volunteer support is crucial.

Volunteers provide invaluable insights and opportunities for young people, many of whom lack equal access to desired industries. These interactions can be their only chance to explore career options and seek guidance.

For five years, ELBA has partnered with The Skills Builder Partnership, focusing on eight essential skills that boost academic outcomes and self belief.

Our Career Insight Visits are an example of this approach in action.

ELBA’s Education activities are very popular with our corporate partners and we encourage you to participate. Here are some tips for working with young people from the east London community:

Recognise individuality: Every young person is unique and learns differently. This might be their first experience in a corporate setting, so they may feel overwhelmed initially.
Find your enthusiasm: While learning is the goal, the experience should be fun and engaging. Relatability helps students envision themselves using these skills in the future.
Be supported: ELBA’s Education team will provide you with all the guidance and materials you need to prepare for a successful volunteering experience.
Share your ideas: ELBA always welcomes new ideas and other ways volunteers can get involved in our opportunities!
Enjoy yourself: You’re generously giving your time. The students are eager to engage with you, so make the most of the interaction — you’re likely to learn something from them!
