Expedia Group’s Month of Caring 2024

Expedia Group’s Month of Caring 2024

Written by Nadia Ishmail, Project Coordinator (Team Challenge)

Every September, Expedia Group launches its global ‘Month of Caring’ campaign, a fantastic initiative that encourages employees to give back to the community by volunteering up to eight hours of work time to support local community organisations. This year marks a milestone for BIG Alliance as we proudly celebrate our 10th year supporting Expedia Group in London, helping source impactful projects where colleagues can make a real difference. The ‘Month of Caring’ campaign is a wonderful opportunity for employees to come together, take action, and contribute to meaningful causes that benefit the community.

Through our close collaboration with our community partners, we were able to offer a range of impactful, hands-on projects and social engagement sessions. Across 25 activities, 471 volunteers dedicated over 2,350 hours to support adventure playgrounds, school gardens, and parks. Their contributions included gardening, maintenance, painting, repairing structures, collecting supplies for food banks, and leading meaningful social hub experiences.

The involvement of volunteers is crucial for completing tasks that might otherwise go unaddressed due to limited time, funds, and resources. Beyond their practical contributions, the social interactions fostered through volunteer-led activities are invaluable. These interactive sessions provide support, offering connection, a sense of belonging, and opportunities to combat social isolation.

Here is some feedback highlighting the importance of volunteer support:

Thanks so much for making a truly positive difference to the gardens and grounds – giving much-needed care and attention to the bank and hedgerow, the Wildlife and Pond Garden, the Hen Run, the Sensory Garden, the Food Garden, the planters, plant pots, and more… We are so grateful to you all. We just couldn’t have done all of this without the help from you and your team, so we truly appreciate everything you have done to improve the children’s gardens and grounds at the school.
