Staff Spotlight – Naimah Miah, Challenge: ELBA Senior Project Manager and Deputy Chair of Comms

When did you join ELBA / BIG Alliance?
March 2022

What is your role and what does it involve?
My job is to link corporations with the community through practical, hands-on volunteering opportunities across east London. These activities provide team-building experiences while making a significant and transformative impact on local communities. We support a wide range of organisations, including schools, city farms, youth groups, hospices, nurseries, community gardens, estate halls, resident associations, parks, public spaces, adventure playgrounds, community centres, and social enterprises across east London.

I am also the Deputy Chair of Comms, collaborating with an incredible committee of colleagues. We manage the monthly newsletter, highlight volunteering opportunities every fortnight, and boost our visibility on social media by sharing exciting stories, videos, and pictures of the fantastic work we do at ELBA

Three words to describe yourself
Thoughtful, Bubbly, Outgoing

Tell us one thing that people may not know about you
I have a passion for cooking! This passion ignited during the COVID lockdowns when having extra time led me to experiment in the kitchen. My family and friends seem to enjoy the food, which always feels great. Two of the family favourites are Beef Chow Mein and Spicy Keema Pasta Bake.

Tell us the best thing about working for ELBA
Definitely the people! My colleagues have such a passion and drive to help the community, and they are incredibly supportive. I’ve also built rapport with our corporate and community partners, which has been very rewarding. Moreover, I’m fortunate to have opportunities to meet new people every week. The collaborative spirit and shared enthusiasm make working here fulfilling.

Name your favourite place in east London and why
My favourite place in east London is the Columbia Road Flower Market. Surrounded by vibrant colours with friends and stopping for a coffee and pastry. I’ve spent many Sundays here and it’s just the perfect way to end the week!
