Poverty in Later Life – report publication

Through ELBA’s Isolation Reduction Programme to support older people in East London, we work with many local as well as national community partners. Independent Age is a national charity focused on giving information, advice & support and advocating on key issues for older people. Their Poverty in Later Life report – hot off the press in mid January – highlights that 40% of older people spent at least 1 year in poverty between 2010/11 and 2018/19, that even one year of poverty in a 10 year period can dramatically increase the risk of material deprivation, and that there are shocking financial inequalities present in later life. ELBA knows that older people living in East London face even greater levels of poverty than a lot of the rest of the country. We are aware, therefore, of the importance of continuing our work supporting older people through our volunteering interventions. The full report can be found here.
