We ask volunteers to cover the cost of tools, materials and any supervision needed on site. There is no cost to yourselves for having volunteers take part in a team challenge.
ELBA works with community organisations based in or working in the boroughs of east London, in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest, Barking & Dagenham Greenwich and Islington (BIG Alliance). Projects include:
- Environmental work in parks & open spaces
- Painting and refurbishments
- Lunch and skills sessions with service users
- Helping foodbanks and charity organisations
- Working with users to understand social exclusion, issues, and young people
Any team size from 5-100. We advise that you take on a suitable team of volunteers, that meet your needs and that you are happy to manage & direct throughout the duration of the challenge.
No, as many teams to help with projects when they are needed. This could be a one-off project or more than one over a period of time.
We cannot guarantee team challenges for an organisation as the volunteers choose the projects they would like to volunteer with. However, we at ELBA try or best to get team/s to you by promoting opportunities. The more flexible you are with dates and time can help.

- Site Visit: Usually, this takes place at least 4 weeks ahead of volunteer day. This is an opportunity to meet the community lead and ELBA contact at the site you have chosen. A vital opportunity to ask any questions your may have about the day such as an overview of tasks, arrangements, finance and health and safety for the event. A follow up project brief and risk assessment will be provided.
- Project Brief – Follow Up: This document is a follow up of your site visit. It will contain all details about the day, key contacts, risk assessment and arrangement details to be shared with your team
- Volunteer Day: An ELBA contact will check in to see if both parties are happy with things on the day. Also to take pictures, get some quotes and tweet!
- Thank You: We ask for feedback to help improve quality and services between our community partners, companies and ELBA. Most importantly, a BIG thank you to the community partner for their time and efforts!
- Training: ELBA provides training for community organisations, annually to help prepare for volunteer days – email us at the address above if you are interested
- Additional help: We can also help connect you with other ELBA departments that can help with business volunteering, educational links and mentoring and employment vacancies
- Be contactable: Ensure you are able to answer to emails and calls promptly. If possible it would be good to have more than one contact.
- Be enthusiastic: Motivation throughout the team challenge is critical to increase productivity.

Each opportunity comes with a budget which pays for tools, materials and supervision. On average this is £25-30 per head.

Team sizes range from 5-100+. We have volunteering opportunities that range from interactive sessions with service users in the community, to practical group work indoor & outdoor across our boroughs. Team size may determine available opportunity.
Volunteers can take part in a number of team challenges throughout the year. At ELBA we look to provide varied opportunities all year round. Please discuss with your CSR contacts and line managers, if you are interested.
