Mentoring Works beginnings and endings
This month has seen both beginnings and endings for Mentoring Works. We launched our Sixth Form cohorts with first visits to Schroders with a group of Mossbourne Community Academy students and Linklaters with students from Clapton Girls’ Academy.
It was great to see the rapport in the room and everyone is looking forward to a successful programme year. There were some great conversations being had, with a number of students interested in careers in finance and law and finding out more about the work that Schroders and Linklaters do.
The programme between Year 10/11 Hackney New School students was brought to a close with a celebration event at their mentors’ Clyde & Co offices. The students were in great spirits and gave us some fantastic feedback about their mentoring experiences over the last nine months. Students enjoyed some break-out activities, gave presentations, completed evaluations and received certificates, whilst enjoying the Clyde & Co hospitality. One student told us:
“My mentor helped us to plan, we explored how to sell ourselves and how to stand out, we talked about political ideas, work life, adulthood, how to manage our time and it gave us an experience of different environments – I’m really excited for my future and the world of work now”
Other current Mentoring Works programmes are continuing with Year 10 students across Hackney, Haringey, Croydon, Brighton and Maidstone, which will be brought to a close with further celebrations and feedback events, staggered between April and July this year.
