British Land Community Day 2017
This summer, ELBA’s Employment Works team worked with Broadgate Connect as it delivered it’s fifth Community Day in partnership with British Land.
This year’s event was hosted by Poplar HARCA, a Housing Association in East London and key partner of Broadgate Connect.
Eight British Land employees volunteered to get involved and support the initiative, participating to support 8 unemployed candidates, focusing on employability skills. The day’s activities included CV development, effective communication skills and interview techniques. The idea of such activities is to provide job seekers with support to develop the skills that they need in finding, interviewing for, and securing employment.
The candidates, who were all Tower Hamlets and Hackney residents, hugely benefited from the 1:1 support, advice and guidance provided by the city professionals. One of the candidates, a Hackney resident who is unemployed and keen to get back into work, said of the session: “I received good pointers on how to improve my CV and perform in interviews”.
The employee volunteers enjoyed the experience and are now committed to participating in future initiatives. One British Land volunteer said that the day was “very fulfilling and and provided job satisfaction”.
With volunteers and job seeker participants reporting such a great day, we look forward to further activities of this kind.
